Dove and Rose is a furnishing textile designed by William Morris in 1879. It was jacquard-woven as a doublecloth in silk and wool, a technique in which the pattern is built into the cloth itself rather than printed on its surface. As the title suggests, the design brings together doves and roses, two motifs that suit Morris's well-known interest in natural forms. The image here is a close view of the fabric, so you can take in the texture and the detail of the weave as well as the pattern. Morris was a leading figure in the British Arts and Crafts movement and helped revive traditional British textile arts.
On your wall: Its floral and bird motifs suit a living room, bedroom or hallway where you want a traditional, handcrafted feel, and it sits well alongside natural materials and wood.
