This panel of floral embroidery dates from 1875 and was designed by William Morris. It is British work, made as embroidered textile, and was produced by Morris & Co. Catherine Holiday is also associated with the piece. Morris is remembered as a designer who helped revive traditional British textile arts and methods of production, and this panel reflects that interest in handwork and flowers as a subject. Today it is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, in the department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.
On your wall: Its floral subject and textile character suit living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, especially in traditional or Arts and Crafts-inspired interiors.
