Kennet is a printed textile designed by William Morris in 1883. It was made using the indigo-discharge method, in which the pattern appears against a ground of rich indigo blue. The design is a floral pattern, and the photograph brings us close to the cloth so that the repeating forms can be studied up close. Morris was a leading figure in the British Arts and Crafts movement and helped revive traditional British textile arts and methods of production, which makes this piece a good example of his work as a textile designer.
On your wall: Its deep blue tones and floral pattern suit living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, particularly in calm, traditional or softly layered interiors.
