This is a plate of a thrush, identified as Turdus rubrocanus gouldi, made by John Gould in 1850. It comes from The Birds of Asia, Volume 3, one of the bird monographs for which Gould became well known. Gould was an English ornithologist whose illustrated publications were produced with a team of artists, among them his wife Elizabeth Gould. The plate belongs to a tradition of studying birds closely and presenting them clearly, so the bird itself is the focus of the picture.
On your wall: It suits studies, hallways, sitting rooms and reading corners, especially where natural history, botanical prints or a calm, traditional look already shape the space.

John Gould was an English ornithologist who published monographs on birds, with plates by his wife, Elizabeth Gould, and artists including Edward Lear, Joseph Wolf and William Matthew Hart. His seven-volume Birds of Australia, from the 1840s, led many to regard him as the father of Australian bird study. He also identified the birds now called Darwin's finches.
