Le Bouddha is a pastel on paper made by Odilon Redon in 1906. It shows the Buddha in a landscape, with vegetation around him, and the work belongs to the tradition of Buddhist art. Among the details listed for it are the figure's dress and a swagger stick. Redon was a French Symbolist draughtsman, printmaker and painter, and here he works in pastel, a medium that allows soft layers of colour on paper. The work is held in the Musée d'Orsay.
On your wall: With its landscape and plant life, it suits a calm living room, a reading corner or a bedroom where a quiet, nature-inspired picture is welcome.

Odilon Redon was a French artist who worked as a draughtsman, printmaker and painter. He belonged to the Symbolist movement, which favoured imagination and suggestion over straightforward description. Moving between drawing, printmaking and painting, he built a body of work that sits comfortably within that tradition and rewards slow, attentive looking.
