About this artwork

This is a botanical study of a pink moss rose, shown with its buds and foliage. The flowers are double, with layered petals, which matches the French caption on the plate: Rosier mousseux à fleurs doubles. The credits printed on it name Redouté as the painter, Langlois as the engraver and the Imprimerie de Rémond as the printer. Redouté, a painter and botanist from the Austrian Netherlands, was known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers, and many of his works were published as large coloured stipple engravings.

On your wall: Soft pink and green tones suit bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms and studies, especially in calm, traditional or lightly decorated interiors where a quiet botanical piece is welcome.
