About this artwork

This is a floral work by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, a painter and botanist from the Austrian Netherlands. It is associated with his roses, including a study of Rosa centifolia, and belongs to the tradition of the painted engraving. Redouté was known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers, many of which were published as large coloured stipple engravings. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers". Here the blooms are the whole subject, set out with the clarity and care of a botanical illustration.

On your wall: Its floral subject suits a bedroom, dining room, hallway or study, particularly where you want something calm and traditional that draws the eye to natural detail.
