About this artwork

Pierre-Joseph Redouté's plate shows a stem of a pink China rose, known as Hume's Blush Tea-scented China. Buds, leaves and a red hip appear along with the open blooms, so the plant is seen at more than one stage. The plate is captioned in Latin as Rosa Indica fragrans and in French as Rosier des Indes odorant, and it carries printed credits for those who worked on it. It is linked with Redouté's Les Roses, the work whose first volume appeared in 1817. A related version of this illustration was published there.

On your wall: Soft pinks and green leaves suit a calm bedroom, a hallway or a dining room, and sit well alongside other botanical prints in a quiet, traditional or modern home.
