Klimt painted this garden landscape in 1913. The title points to an Italian setting, and the picture belongs to the landscape genre, a part of his work that sits alongside his better-known figurative paintings, allegories and portraits. Today it belongs to the collection of the Kunsthaus Zug in Switzerland, where it is kept.
On your wall: A garden landscape like this suits living rooms, studies and quiet hallways where a natural subject brings a calm, considered note to the wall.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. He made paintings, murals and sketches, centred mainly on the female body with a frank eroticism, and also painted landscapes. Among his best-known works are The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.
