This 1899 landscape by Gustav Klimt shows a still pond near Golling an der Salzach. It is also known by the title A Morning by the Pond. Klimt painted it in oil on canvas, and it is now in the Leopold Museum. Although he is best known for figures and portraits, he also painted landscapes, and this is one of them. The subject is simple: an artificial pond and the calm of the water.
On your wall: Its calm, water-focused subject suits living rooms, bedrooms, studies and quiet corners where a restful landscape is welcome.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. He made paintings, murals and sketches, centred mainly on the female body with a frank eroticism, and also painted landscapes. Among his best-known works are The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.
