Paul Klee made this work in 1926, using watercolour and gouache on a panel. The title, Untitled (Reconstruction), invites you to take your time and find your own way into it. Klee was born in Switzerland and worked as a German artist, and his individual style drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism. The work is held by KODE Art museums and composer homes. Here, the combination of delicate watercolour and more opaque gouache is part of what makes the surface worth studying closely.
On your wall: Its abstract character suits studies, living rooms and reading corners, or any space where a thoughtful, modern piece can reward a longer look.

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
