Paul Klee, 1930
A winged figure with spectacles and a beard, drawn in sharp angles by Paul Klee in 1930. Quirky and quietly curious.

Paul Klee made this work in 1930 and gave it the title Trinkender Engel. It shows a winged figure with a beard and spectacles, its arms raised in angular lines and a triangular skirt below. Klee inscribed the year and the title on the mount around the picture. Angels were a subject he returned to in his art, and this one has a distinctly human, slightly unexpected face. Klee was Swiss-born and German, and his individual style drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism.
On your wall: Its playful, graphic character suits a study, a reading corner or a living room where modern and abstract art is already part of the mix.

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
