Paysage is a landscape painted by Henri Rousseau around 1905. Rousseau was a French post-Impressionist who worked in the Naïve, or Primitive, manner. He was known as Le Douanier, a playful nod to his job as a toll and tax collector. He began painting seriously in his early forties and left that work at 49 to paint full-time. This landscape belongs to that later, committed period of his career, and today it is held in the Musée d'Art naïf et d'Arts singuliers.
On your wall: A landscape like this suits living rooms, studies and hallways, where it brings a calm, painterly view of the natural world to the wall.
