About this artwork

Alexej von Jawlensky painted this landscape in 1906, and its title points to Wasserburg, the town on the Inn, with a red roof as its focus. Jawlensky was a Russian expressionist painter who worked in Germany. He later became a key member of the New Munich Artist's Association, Der Blaue Reiter and Die Blaue Vier. Seen alongside those later affiliations, this early landscape shows an artist turning a quiet place into a composition of its own.

On your wall: A landscape with a red roof suits a living room, study or hallway, especially where a modern, abstract look is wanted alongside more traditional furnishings.
