Lyubov Popova painted Painterly Architectonic in 1917, working in oil on canvas. It belongs to the tradition of geometric abstraction, and it draws on several currents of its time, including Cubism, Futurism, Suprematism and Constructivism. Rather than depicting a recognisable scene, the work is built from shapes and the relationships between them. Popova was a Russian-Soviet avant-garde artist, painter and designer. The original is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
On your wall: Its abstract, geometric character suits modern interiors such as living rooms, studies and open-plan spaces, where it can bring structure and visual interest to a plain wall.

Lyubov Popova was a Russian-Soviet artist who belonged to the avant-garde. She worked as both a painter and a designer, and her practice moved between the two disciplines. Her work is associated with the experimental spirit of that movement, and it continues to draw the attention of those interested in modern art and design.
