About this artwork

Composition is a pastel drawing made by Otto Freundlich in 1924, after a trip to Paris where he took part in the Salon des Indépendants. It is counted among his most lyrically intense pastels from that year. Freundlich had studied art in Germany and Italy and first visited Paris in 1908, working alongside writers and artists such as Apollinaire, Braque and Picasso in Montmartre. He painted his first purely abstract works in 1911 and stayed committed to abstraction from then on. His work appeared in important exhibitions in Berlin, Munich and Paris.

On your wall: Its abstract character suits modern interiors such as living rooms, studies and creative spaces, where it can bring a thoughtful, expressive note to the walls.
