About this artwork

Painted in oil on canvas in 1925, Sphärische Körper, or 'Spherical Bodies', is an abstract work by Otto Freundlich. The title points to rounded, sphere-like forms rather than a recognisable scene, so the painting invites you to look at shape and arrangement for their own sake. Freundlich was a German painter and sculptor, counted among the first generation of abstract artists, and he greatly admired cubism. He spent much of his life in France.

On your wall: Its abstract, form-led character suits modern living rooms, studies and calm hallways where a single considered picture can anchor the space.
