Painted in 1925, Yellow-Red-Blue is an abstract work in oil on canvas by Wassily Kandinsky. Its title points to the three colours at the heart of the picture, and the circle appears among its forms. Rather than describing a scene, the painting invites you to follow colour and shape as they meet and play against one another. Kandinsky is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art, and this work belongs to that tradition. It is held in the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Georges Pompidou.
On your wall: Its bold primary colours and abstract forms suit a living room, studio or study where a lively, modern focal point is welcome.
