La Danse is a painting by André Derain, dated 1905. That places it in the very period when the French artist, who co-founded Fauvism with Henri Matisse, was working with what has been described as riotous colour. Paintings from 1905 and 1906 are the ones most closely tied to that Fauve style. The title points to dance as the subject, so you can expect movement and rhythm to be at the heart of the picture. The work is held in a private collection.
On your wall: Its lively subject and Fauve spirit suit living rooms, studios and hallways where you want a note of movement and energy on the wall.

André Derain was a French painter and sculptor who co-founded Fauvism alongside Henri Matisse. His work from 1905 to 1906 is known for its bold, exuberant colour. By 1910 his style had grown more restrained, shaped by his study of Cézanne and the old masters. After the First World War he became a leading figure in the Return to order.
