About this artwork

This is a pastoral scene by Max Pechstein, showing cows in a meadow. He made it in 1921 using pencil and watercolour on paper, and it measures 47 by 58.5 centimetres. The work is signed and dated in the lower right corner. Pechstein was a German Expressionist and a member of Die Brücke, and watercolour allowed him to work with a directness that suits an outdoor subject like this one.

On your wall: Its gentle countryside subject and watercolour lightness suit living rooms, bedrooms, studies and dining areas, especially where a modern interior could use a calm, natural note.
