Pechstein painted Abend, meaning 'evening', in oil on canvas around 1922, while he was in Leba. The canvas measures 80 by 100.5 centimetres, a generous landscape format. He signed it with his initials and surname on the front, at the lower left. On the back he signed it again and added an inscription that includes the word Abend. Pechstein was a German Expressionist and a member of the Die Brücke group, and this work belongs to his output of the early 1920s.
On your wall: Its evening theme and expressionist handling suit living rooms, studies and quiet corners where a modern, abstract-leaning picture can set a calm mood.
