About this artwork

Abendwolken, which translates as 'Evening Clouds', is an oil painting on canvas by Max Pechstein, made around 1922. It measures roughly 80 by 100 centimetres, so it is a fairly generous work in a landscape format. Pechstein signed it 'HMPechstein' at the lower right and wrote the title on the reverse. The title points to a sky at the end of the day, with clouds as the subject. Pechstein was a German Expressionist painter and a member of the Die Brücke group, and this work belongs to his output from the early 1920s.

On your wall: With a sky at dusk as its subject, it should sit comfortably in living rooms, studies or quiet hallways where a calm, atmospheric picture is welcome.
