About this artwork

Max Pechstein painted this still life of sunflowers in a vase in 1912. It is an oil painting on canvas, signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner, and it measures 81 by 71 centimetres. Pechstein was a German Expressionist painter and printmaker, and a member of the Die Brücke group. Flowers in a vase were a subject he could approach with the same freedom of vision that marked his circle, and this canvas places the sunflower, with its familiar round head, at the centre of attention.

On your wall: A vase of sunflowers brings a lively, painterly note to living rooms, dining areas and kitchens, and sits well alongside modern, uncluttered interiors.
