About this artwork

This is The Wetterhorn, a woodblock print by Hiroshi Yoshida from 1925, part of his Europe Series. Yoshida worked in the shin-hanga style and is best known for his landscapes. He travelled widely to see different places and artistic traditions, and he often applied traditional Japanese woodblock methods to subjects from beyond Japan, the Swiss Alps among them. Here the mountain named in the title is given that treatment, so a well-known Alpine peak is seen through a Japanese printmaker's eye.

On your wall: Its mountain subject suits studies, living rooms and hallways, especially where a calm landscape is welcome, and it pairs well with other Japanese or nature-themed prints.
