About this artwork

Hiroshi Yoshida's Glittering Sea, from 1926, is a woodblock print of sailboats on a bright, sunlit sea. Light sparkles across the water, and a few more boats appear small and faint near the horizon, which gives the scene a calm sense of distance. Yoshida was a Japanese painter and printmaker, regarded as one of the leading artists of the shin-hanga style and known especially for his landscape prints. This work shows his interest in everyday scenes of nature, handled through the traditional medium of the woodblock.

On your wall: Its bright water and open horizon would suit a living room, hallway or bedroom where you want a quiet, airy feeling, and it pairs well with light, natural interiors.
