This is a woodblock print of 1928 by Hiroshi Yoshida, titled Funatsu and showing Mount Fuji as seen from there. Yoshida worked as both a painter and a printmaker, and he is counted among the leading artists of the shin-hanga style, which is especially admired for its landscapes. Mount Fuji appears often in Japanese woodblock prints, and here Yoshida takes it up in his own medium. Alongside his views of Japan, he travelled widely and also made prints of places abroad, including the Swiss Alps.
On your wall: A calm landscape of Mount Fuji that would suit a living room, study or hallway, particularly where a thoughtful, understated Japanese touch is wanted.
