Sky Blue is an oil painting on canvas by Wassily Kandinsky, dated 1940. Kandinsky is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art, and the title here points you towards colour as the way in. Born in Moscow, he took up painting studies at the age of 30, and went on to work as both a painter and an art theorist. The work belongs to the collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne, where it is held today.
On your wall: Its title suggests a cool, airy blue palette, which would sit well in a living room, study or calm bedroom where a modern, abstract piece is welcome.
