Kazimir Malevich, 1929
A bright, cheerful landscape where tall coloured trees stand under white clouds, and a woman in a pink skirt walks with a child.

This is a sketch for a painting, and it shows a landscape in bright, flat-looking colour. Tall trees in red-yellow, pink, black and blue rise across the scene, with white clouds above and buildings set among them. In the middle of it all, a woman in a pink skirt walks with a child. The palette is lively and varied, yet the figures and the setting are simple enough to read at a glance. It is a work by Kazimir Malevich, dated 1929, and it is held in a private collection.
On your wall: Its bright pinks, blues and yellows suit a living room, hallway or child's room that could use a lively note of colour.

Kazimir Malevich was a Russian avant-garde artist and art theorist. Through both his paintings and his writings, he helped shape the course of abstract painting in the twentieth century. He is best remembered as the founder of Suprematism, a radically non-objective approach to painting that he introduced in 1915.
