This Suprematist painting is built from simple geometric shapes set against white. A blue square sits at a tilt, a dark horizontal bar anchors the arrangement, and many small rectangles in different colours are spread around them. Nothing here represents an object from the everyday world; the interest lies in how the shapes relate to one another and to the open space between them. Kazimir Malevich founded Suprematism in 1915 as a radically non-objective form of painting, and this composition belongs to that approach to abstraction.
On your wall: Its white ground and crisp shapes suit minimalist interiors, such as a bright living room, a study or a hallway, where the blue and dark accents can stand out.
