Arthur Wesley Dow made this woodcut in 1916. It carries two titles, "The Derelict" and "The Lost Boat", which suggest a boat left adrift or abandoned. Dow was an American painter, printmaker, photographer and arts educator, and printmaking was one strand of his varied work. The original is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, given by the Dowd-Gallogly Family and Allan E. Dowd.
On your wall: Its restrained subject and print origins suit calm spaces such as studies, hallways, bedrooms or minimalist living rooms where a single considered image can stand alone.
