Centaurea kotschyana is a photograph by Karl Blossfeldt, the German photographer and sculptor known for his close-up studies of plants. The title points to a plant of the knapweed family, seen at close range. Blossfeldt was drawn to nature and to the ways plants grow, as his father had been before him, and this attention to structure runs through his best-known project, Urformen der Kunst, published in 1929. A print of this photograph is held in the Pinakothek der Moderne.
On your wall: Its restrained, plant-focused subject suits calm interiors such as studies, hallways, bedrooms and minimalist living spaces, where it can be given room to be looked at closely.
