About this artwork

This is a photograph by Karl Blossfeldt, titled after Eryngium bourgatii, a species of sea holly. Blossfeldt was a German photographer and sculptor, known for close-up images of plants and other living things. He was drawn, as his father had been, to nature and the ways in which plants grow. The work is held in the Pinakothek der Moderne and belongs to the body of images associated with Urformen der Kunst, the 1929 publication that brought his plant photographs to a wide audience.

On your wall: Its restrained, botanical subject suits calm interiors such as studies, hallways, bedrooms and minimalist living spaces, alone or in a group of plant studies.
