This is a woodcut from Félix Vallotton's Intimités series, shown in black and white. It presents a domestic interior. At the left, a figure stands by a candle. Draped clothing is visible, and another figure sits on a striped sofa. The inscription 'APPRETS DE VISITE' appears within the image, along with the artist's initials, 'FV'. Vallotton was an important figure in the development of the modern woodcut, and the strong contrast of dark and light here shows how much he could do with so few tones.
On your wall: Its stark black and white and its quiet domestic scene suit a study, hallway, bedroom or living room where a restrained, graphic piece is wanted.
