About this artwork

Painted in 1914 by Kazimir Malevich, this work brings together the title's famous subject, the Mona Lisa, with the language of a composition. Malevich was a Russian avant-garde artist and art theorist, and his work helped shape abstract painting in the twentieth century. The following year, 1915, he introduced Suprematism, the radically non-objective approach for which he is best known. This piece comes from the period just before that step.

On your wall: A thoughtful choice for a study, a living room or a hallway where a piece with an art-historical edge can sit calmly in a minimalist setting.
