Kennet is a woven silk textile designed by William Morris in 1883. Up close, it shows large, stylised green flowers set among acanthus-like leaves, all laid over a golden ground with a finely worked pattern. The bold forms are balanced by the delicate detail behind them, so the design rewards both a quick glance and a longer look. It was made in Merton Abbey, Surrey, and Morris is remembered for helping to revive traditional British textile arts and methods of production.
On your wall: The golden ground and deep green foliage suit living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where warm tones and a traditional or Arts and Crafts feel are wanted.
