Composition was painted in France in 1922, in oil on canvas. It is the work of Albert Gleizes, the French artist and theorist who helped shape Cubism. With Jean Metzinger, he wrote Du "Cubisme" in 1912, the first major treatise on the movement. Gleizes was also a founding member of the Section d'Or and later helped found Abstraction-Création. The title points to his interest in building a picture from carefully arranged elements rather than describing a scene.
On your wall: Its modern, abstract character suits studies, living rooms and other spaces where a considered, structured piece can sit alongside contemporary or classic furnishings.
