About this artwork

This is a landscape painted in France in 1901, and the title points us to its main subject: two large trees. It is an early work by Albert Gleizes, who later became closely associated with Cubism. He went on to co-write the treatise Du "Cubisme" with Jean Metzinger in 1912 and to take part in the Section d'Or group. Seen alongside that later career, this canvas offers a quiet view of where he began, with the natural world as his subject.

On your wall: A landscape with two tall trees suits living rooms, studies and hallways where you would like a calm, natural subject with a link to modern art.
