This is an advertising poster by Alphonse Mucha, the Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist who worked in Paris during the Art Nouveau period. A red-haired woman lifts blue-tinted laundry from a wooden washtub, and a short slogan in French accompanies her. Mucha was widely known for his stylised, decorative posters, and this one belongs with his work in that field. It sits among the colour plates of his graphic works and suits anyone drawn to vintage advertising design.
On your wall: The blue and red palette and the homely subject suit a laundry room, kitchen or hallway, and bring a touch of vintage character to a retro-styled space.
