Vincent van Gogh, 1890
A wheatfield beneath a wide sky, with ravens above it. Van Gogh painted it in July 1890, and it rewards a slow look.

Painted in July 1890, this landscape shows a field, a sky and ravens, as the title tells us. Van Gogh worked in oil on canvas, and the painting is now in the Van Gogh Museum. Several critics have cited it as one of his greatest works. It belongs to the final period of his career, when he was producing paintings at a remarkable pace. Across his work, bold colour and expressive, energetic brushwork were central, and you can look for both here as the field meets the sky.
On your wall: A wheatfield and open sky suit living rooms, studies and hallways, where a landscape with strong colour and a sense of space can hold a wall.
