This is Van Gogh's oil painting after Hiroshige's flowering plum orchard, made in 1887 on canvas. A dark plum trunk rises in the foreground, set against a sky of red and yellow. Around the scene runs an orange border decorated with Japanese-style characters, which gives the picture the look of a Japanese print. It belongs to the Orientalism of its time and is classed as a landscape. The work is now in the Van Gogh Museum.
On your wall: Its warm oranges, reds and yellows, with the dark trunk as a strong anchor, suit a living room, study or hallway, especially where Japanese-inspired or simple, calm decor is wanted.

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, regarded as one of the most influential figures in Western art. In little over a decade he produced around 2,100 works, including about 860 oil paintings, most of them in his final two years. He is known for landscapes, still lifes and portraits, painted in bold colour with expressive, energetic brushwork.
