Vincent van Gogh painted Girl in White in 1890 in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, during the last months of his life. It is an oil painting on canvas, and it belongs to the portrait tradition. A young woman stands in a white dress and a yellow straw hat, set against a green field of wheat dotted with orange poppies. The pale dress stands out against the greens and the small touches of orange. Since 1963 the work has been part of the Chester Dale Collection at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.
On your wall: Its fresh greens, soft white and touches of orange and yellow suit bright living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, especially where natural light brings out the colours.
