About this artwork

Camille Pissarro painted this work in 1898, and its title places it at Éragny in June, in rainy weather. It is an oil painting on canvas, and it now belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago. Pissarro is known as an Impressionist, and the title suggests a subject that suits the movement well: a landscape shaped by changing weather and light, seen on a damp early-summer day.

On your wall: Its rainy, early-summer landscape subject suits calm living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where a quiet, natural scene is wanted.
