Painted by Claude Monet in 1886, this work takes its subject from its title: a field of tulips in Holland. Monet was a founder of Impressionism and is known for trying to paint nature as he perceived it, often working outdoors on landscapes. Here, that approach meets a flower-covered countryside, where the eye is drawn to the field itself and the colour it brings to the scene. It is a good picture to spend time with if you enjoy landscapes that feel open and observed first-hand.
On your wall: Its flower-field subject suits living rooms, dining areas and bedrooms where you would like a bright, calm landscape, and it pairs well with other Impressionist pieces.

Claude Monet was a French painter and a founder of Impressionism. He devoted his long career to expressing nature as he perceived it, working especially in outdoor landscape painting. The movement takes its name from his painting Impression, Sunrise, shown in 1874 at the First Impressionist Exhibition, which he helped initiate as an alternative to the Salon.
