Painted in oil on canvas in 1875, this Impressionist work shows Monet's wife, Camille, with their son Jean. The family were living in Argenteuil at the time, and the scene captures a stroll on a windy summer's day. Camille appears with her dress and parasol, with the boy beside her. The painting is sometimes called The Stroll, although Monet used the word "Promenade" in the titles of several other works in the same series. Its everyday family subject makes it feel intimate and unposed.
On your wall: Its gentle outdoor subject and summery mood suit living rooms, hallways and bedrooms, especially where you want a calm, airy feeling on the wall.

Claude Monet was a French painter and a founder of Impressionism. He devoted his long career to expressing nature as he perceived it, working especially in outdoor landscape painting. The movement takes its name from his painting Impression, Sunrise, shown in 1874 at the First Impressionist Exhibition, which he helped initiate as an alternative to the Salon.
