Painted in 1883, this oil on canvas is a woodland landscape that shows a path winding through a corner of forest. The title places it at Les Sablons, and the work belongs to Sisley's series of views around Veneux-les-Sablons. Sisley was an Impressionist who devoted himself to landscape and was known for his steady commitment to painting outdoors, and that attention to the open air shapes scenes like this one. Today the painting is held in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
On your wall: Its woodland subject and natural setting suit calm spaces such as a hallway, study, bedroom or living room, particularly where you want a touch of the countryside.

Alfred Sisley was an Impressionist landscape painter, born in Paris to British parents. He was especially devoted to painting outdoors, and almost all his work is landscape. He is known for series made around Hampton Court on the Thames, the 1875 floods at Marly-le-Roi, and the Gothic church at Moret-sur-Loing, as well as Seine riverside scenes west of Paris.
