Sisley painted this view of the bridge at Sèvres in 1877, in oil on canvas. The title tells us where we are: a bridge at Sèvres, on the western side of Paris. Sisley was an Impressionist who devoted himself to landscape and was known for working outdoors, and riverside scenes were a recurring subject throughout his career. The painting is now in the Barnes Foundation.
On your wall: A landscape with a bridge suits a hallway, study or living room, where its calm, everyday subject can sit comfortably beside both traditional and modern furnishings.

Alfred Sisley was an Impressionist landscape painter, born in Paris to British parents. He was especially devoted to painting outdoors, and almost all his work is landscape. He is known for series made around Hampton Court on the Thames, the 1875 floods at Marly-le-Roi, and the Gothic church at Moret-sur-Loing, as well as Seine riverside scenes west of Paris.
