Painted by Claude Monet in 1890, this oil on canvas shows a field of oats scattered with red poppies. Above it hangs a soft, hazy pink sky, and trees stand at the right and further back in the distance. The brushwork is loose and Impressionist, so the flowers read as touches of red against the green and gold of the field. Monet signed and dated the work 'Claude Monet 90' at the lower right. It measures 65 x 92.1 cm.
On your wall: Its warm reds, soft pinks and the open landscape suit living rooms, dining areas and bedrooms, especially where a gentle, airy note of colour is wanted.

Claude Monet was a French painter and a founder of Impressionism. He devoted his long career to expressing nature as he perceived it, working especially in outdoor landscape painting. The movement takes its name from his painting Impression, Sunrise, shown in 1874 at the First Impressionist Exhibition, which he helped initiate as an alternative to the Salon.
