About this artwork

Ohara Koson made this colour woodblock print in 1925, and it shows a great tit perched on a branch. Around the bird, red-orange leaves and clusters of blue berries hang from the branch, giving the small scene a lovely autumnal warmth. The artist's signature and seal appear at the right. It was printed on Japanese paper and published by Watanabe Shōzaburō in Tokyo. Koson was a leading figure in the shinsaku-hanga and shin-hanga movements, and his bird subjects are a good example of that tradition.

On your wall: The warm orange leaves and soft blue berries suit a calm living room, a study or a bedroom, especially where you want a gentle touch of nature.
