About this artwork

Ohara Koson shows two white geese by a river in the rain. One spreads its wings, while the other bows down to drink from the water. Dark wooden posts and reeds frame them. The work is a colour woodcut, printed from a black line block with blocks of colour, and it also uses blind printing, where shapes are pressed into the paper without ink. It was made in Tokyo. The image is small and intimate, and the scene is easy to read at a glance.

On your wall: Its white birds, dark posts and muted rainy setting suit calm spaces such as a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a reading corner.
