About this artwork

This print shows pink water lilies: two open flowers and three buds still closed. It is a colour woodblock print on paper, made with a black outline block combined with blocks of colour. Several hands were involved. Ohara Koson is named as the artist, Maeda as the block cutter, Komatsu Wasakichi as the printer and Kawaguchi of Tokyo as the publisher. It dates from between 1920 and 1930, and the image measures roughly 38 by 24 centimetres. Koson was a Japanese painter and print designer working in the shin-hanga and shinsaku-hanga movements.

On your wall: The soft pink blooms and quiet, upright format suit a calm bedroom, a hallway or a reading corner, especially where a gentle natural touch is wanted.
